Otaru is on the seacoast about 45 minutes drive north of Sapporo. It is a popular destination for visitors, with shops near the waterfront selling seafood, souvenirs, hand made glass items, and many other things. There are also a variety of restaurants. The "Sapporo Ramen" noodle shop pictured below features squid in their noodle dishes. The dimly lit coffee shop was illuminated by kerosene lamps.
